Yesterday's audition...

So I went up to LA for an audition for a feature film yesterday. My first thought was to audition as I usually do...not over-think the character, don't worry about the 'action' in the scene, just get in there and play it strong and face-to-face. With this particular character though...I did things a little differently.

The character is faith-based, nurturing, the glue holding together a crumbling marriage while standing behind her two kids. I felt it really necessary to play the scene to SHOW the nurturing side of her by putting her child to bed, by helping her oldest child through a dilemma while making lunch, by avoiding eye contact with the her husband (her way of keeping her strength without losing it completely) until the bickering hit a certain point in which she grabbed her 'Cross' necklace (I never wear ANY bling to an audition by the way) for strength and confronting her husband. Again, typically one should play face-to-face and strong...could be my demise, but she was necessary to 'show' as well.

I don't know how it played on camera...I know what I was trying to convey, I just really hope it came through. Took a risk...I like risks, even if they don't pan out. I put myself through the ringer when I'm safe (don't get me wrong...some days I DO play it safe) but I ALWAYS do the 'what if' when I do.

Anyway...it was a great experience.

So wish me luck! It shoots 9/21 - 10/03...I'll keep you posted. :)

xoxo, Maggie
